1st Time Byers

From "Welcome to The New Hampshire Forum!"

Go to the project

Carroll County need to encourage more lower cost for 1st time buyers. We need to get contractors to build future home that sell below $275,000.00. Encouraging spec house building. I did this up in Bangor in the early 2000's. My customer purchased a 320 acre parcel and we approached the town building inspector where he said homes in the 1700 - 1900 with no amenities should work. A local realtor up there offered that these homes would price at between $230,000 - $275,000. We need to do this here.

My daughter has been looking to buy a house $300k bank approved and cannot find anything that doesn't need 50-100k repairs. The market is not on the side of first time home buyers, she may buy in Maine for this reason. Don't loose young couples NH!

I absolutely agree! Almost everyone I know is hurting financially because there is no way to get ahead and save! I live in fear every day that we will be kicked out of our rental home and be homeless. There are no other options available for us, anywhere! I have searched high and low, and the possibilities for buying or renting are completely unreasonable.

You won't convince building companies to build affordable housing, but the state should be able to use tax money to employee New Hampshire residence to build affordable house. This would remove the profit motive and force competition back into the housing market. Need a cheap starter home? Buy from the government housing pool. Want a McMansion? Pay way to much to have someone outsource the work three times over and end up with a house that doesn't meet code. 😂
