Education funding
From "Welcome to The New Hampshire Forum!"
Go to the project
New Hampshire needs to figure out a fair and equitable way to fund education for all of our children. Public education should not be compromised for a few people who want a different education for their children. Most of the cost is passed to the homeowners but this will become more difficult as New Hampshire’s population ages.

New Hampshire’s population is already aged. We are the second oldest state in the U.S., with more than 1 in 4 residents aged 60 or over. Only about 18% of the population is of school age. Only about 73% of the population can afford to own a home. These statistics do not support the continued practice of funding education with property tax money. Our children are our future. The State’s future, and the future of our Nation, not just the community’s future. We have a state-wide responsibility to educate them well and properly, regardless of where they live. This is about ten years overdue.

NH's education funding model puts too much weight on local property taxes, which means the quality of a child's education is still largely determined by their zip code. Towns with lower property values struggle to fund adequately resourced schools. A more equitable state-level funding formula isn't a radical idea — it's a baseline for fairness. Every kid in this state deserves a well-funded classroom regardless of whether they live in a wealthy town or not.

I agree that we need to fund public schools, but in my opinion, it’s not just funding that is a concern, at least to me, but what our youths are being taught: I am opposed funding Anti-American and woke teaching. What are we getting for our taxes?
I’m whole heartedly opposed to “taxation without representation”.

I don't believe funding is the problem. We put almost everything under the definition of education and schools are not prioritizing the subjects that contribute to better scores and life skills. Education should be getting cheaper in the age of the internet. Information is now free and easily accessible to everyone. So why does it cost more every year with fewer students to teach? Why can one get a masters level education for free online, and our public schools can teach the basics for $33,000 per student per year? We need to think of innovative ways to teach children for less money. I agree we can't continue on this path, but the only way to fix it is to get spending under control.

In my view, the entire concept of education and its Intent, in my view, needs far more definition and update to ensure students are being prepared for a changing global scenario. Business as usual is not working and in fact, reminds me of the old adage, " In my view, the entire concept of education and its Intent, needs far more definition and update to ensure students are being prepared for a changing global scenario. Business as usual is not working and in fact, reminds me of the old adage, " Insanity is repeating the same behaviors and expecting different results." Sustainability matters as does addressing environmental factors that pose significant changes in how we survive.
