Education funding that follows the child just makes good sense.

All NH kids should have the education they need to succeed, whether it’s in public school, a charter school, a private school, a career/tech school, homeschooling, or a combination of schools and environments. Education funding that follows the child just makes good sense.

I would agree with this. School choice has been proven to create better learning outcomes for students. Parents should have the freedom to choose where and how their children are educated. If local municipalities would like to additionally fund their students that is there prerogative. Allowing public schools, charter schools, and religious schools to compete for student dollars is a net positive because competition drives improvement and innovation.

@Seal Hare completely agree. It might raise the educational excellence when certain failing schools find no tax dollars are around bc parents don’t feel the particular institution is good. I went private. Best thing I did for my kids and we scrimped to do it. Too many parents aren’t engaged and aren’t “really” raising their kids.

If the state fulfilled its obligation to pay for education and every student across the state received equal funding, this idea may work, but the reality that local property taxes pay for the vast majority of education related expenses has created a disparate educational system where your zip-code determines the quality of your education. Families in poorly funded school districts, who have the ability, seek out alternate educational paths for their students. This pulls more money out of the local public school system which further depresses the educational system for those students who are "left behind." The result is a tiered education system based on socio-economic status where those most in need of help receive the least, further enforcing generational poverty.

Agree. The purpose of education is not to sustain teachers career. it is about what is best for the child.
