Education system lacks fiscal transparency

From "Welcome to The New Hampshire Forum!"

Go to the project

New Hampshire's school districts operate with too little fiscal transparency and too little meaningful accountability to the voters who fund them. In Claremont, per-pupil spending has climbed steadily while student outcomes have declined, and residents lack access to clear, comparable financial data to evaluate how their tax dollars are being used. The governance structures of local school boards only compound this problem, making genuine citizen oversight difficult in practice. If state leaders want to solve one problem, they should stop pouring money into failing institutional structures and instead fund parents directly to educate their children in the ways that actually work for their families.

How do we know that funds sent directly to parents will be used for the child's education? I don't want my tax money going directly to parents to maybe use it for their child's education either. Why not work to improve the outcomes of our schools rather than defund them?
