Gentrification of our rural communities
From "Welcome to The New Hampshire Forum!"
Go to the project
I am exhausted by seeing the blatant gentrification happening in our rural communities. Places like Owls Nest are buying up all of the land and homes/properties for sale and turning them into more of their associated properties, effectively pushing out the locals and making it impossible for them to afford to live here anymore. They are overreaching and catering to elites and wealthy classes of people, and not enriching the local and lower class communities. It's going to ruin our beautiful nature and communities and turn it into something inaccessible.

We need incentives to realign to human development rather than economic development. Once we make everything a profit-seeking venture, we further atomize families and communities. Us lower and middle class New Hampshirites deserve a seat at the table, too!

We’re already seeing the loss of New Hampshire’s charm and wildlife, and it’s starting to shift the core values of the state as a whole. “Live Free or Die” is stamped on every license plate, but more and more people here no longer have the freedom to truly experience and appreciate what makes this state special because the cost of living keeps rising.
As a 35-year-old who has been trying to buy a home for the past five years—working two jobs and still getting turned down offer after offer because someone else can come in with cash—I feel this deeply. It’s not just frustrating, it’s disheartening. It feels like the very people who built these communities are being priced out of them, and that loss is something you feel in your soul.

@Sea lion Impala Exeter is doing the same they are draining the rivers by removing dams they are allowing 17 condo on an acre of land trees are eliminated every day. Phillips Exeter academy buys almost every house for staff and students. Making those houses never available for rent. Traffic nightmares daily from over building. I could go on.
