Gun Violence Prevention

From "Welcome to The New Hampshire Forum!"

Go to the project

Common sense gun laws benefit everyone. NH is a New England outlier and holds court in the top ten of ALL states for the least amount of gun violence prevention legislation in the country. With the upcoming “Guns on Campus” HB 1793 hearing on April 14, the time is now for the majority of NH residents to stand up and protect our students and our communities from laws that stand to increase opportunity for gun violence across the state. Gun violence is the number one cause of death for children in the United States. We must come together to create change.

Radically unrestricted rights, like we enjoy here, are predicated on a population that can dematrate the ability to control themselves without the threat of the law. By and large we are a homogenous culture and as such we have some of the lowest rates of violence in the nation. There are many factors that compel other regions to have gun violence issues, but that is not a problem we face. Properly treating the mentally ill is probably a better use of our time to maintain safety than stripping away the 2A rights of a peacable people, whether it's labeled as "common sense" or not.

And whose kids are expendable? We don’t have “common sense gun laws! Any nut job can have a gun and that doesn’t make anyone feel safe.

Ok first to dispel your dishonest talking points, gun deaths are only the leading cause of death in children if you exclude 0-1, and include 18-19 And even then it is concentrated around 15+ year olds engaged in gang lifestyle And second that’s hardly applicable to NH, the safest state in the nation, even with our abundance of human rights protections.
NH is the only state in the area with no mass shooting incidence. Even VT has had one, according to federal data. There are many more pressing issues.

@Spider Alligator I hope to keep NH that way. I cannot imagine a positive outcome of allowing students on college campuses to carry guns on them. There is bound to be injury, intended or not, caused by this.

@Spider Alligator yet! Guns should be in the hands of trained professionals not anyone else. Hunting for game legally is the only exception and hunters need vetting.
@Cricket Tortoise genuinely not trying to sound sarcastic, but there are plenty of places in the country that are effectively "gun free" zones, where you could find a home and feel safe. The idea that one of the least violent states in the nation should be stripped of inaliable rights is incompatible with our heritage.

New Hampshire is also #1 in the nation for Crime & Corrections and the safest State. Surely there are more pressing issues for the forum, like housing, education, or the budget.
