House assessments

Go to the project
Setting standards and enforcing the state RSAs when it comes to assessing homes. Assessors have no standards to follow and assessments are totally subjective and unfair. Beyond that, the towns are not doing their job to review each year as law requires causing unfair both over and under assessments, especially when the Selectman is paying 10,000 a year less than the other houses in town of similar value. That Selectman’s ‘discount’ for lack of a better word raises the taxes of all homes that are fairly assessed.

Assessments and the taxes based thereon ARE regulated by state law. RSA Chapters 75 and 76 establish a host of regulations on the assessment of real property and abatements from incorrect assessments. The NH Board of Tax and Land Appeals (https://www.btla.nh.gov/) provides a variety of resources to challenge assessments, etc.
I hope that information assists you in understanding how the law protects NH residents from unfair assessment and taxation.
