Listen first
From "Welcome to The New Hampshire Forum!"
Go to the project
We would all be better off by listening first, and listening to understand.
This starts at the top. If our politicians can do it, we can do it too.
Listening doesn’t mean agreeing. We shouldn’t all agree. But right now we’re talking past each other, and nothing good comes from that.
Nothing significant can happen without improving civic discourse and civic life.

The challenge is "if our leaders can do it..." maybe the challenge should be for "us" to show the leaders how you do it.

Active listening is an importance skill to have. It appears to me that one is quick to interrupt another person speaking before they have presented their point or thought. It may have the effect of silence a person or persons if they feel the person interrupting is trying to shut the down. Too often this is what I am seeing play out in government today. If I don’t feel that my input will be heard let alone is taken into consideration, I just tend to withdraw. This is frustrating. I no o get feel that those in our legislature to the time to understand the concerns of their constituents and instead are basing their bills or acts on what is happening on a federal level. We need to. Let the voices of NH propose ideas not only based on idealogy, or opinion , but also on factual data.
