Property taxes

From "Welcome to The New Hampshire Forum!"

Go to the project

Rising property taxes—sometimes increasing by thousands of dollars each year—are placing an unsustainable burden on senior citizens living on fixed incomes. Many are forced to cut back on basic necessities just to keep up. As a result, some seniors are being pushed out of their homes, and in many cases, out of the state, separating them from their families and communities.

Are you also proposing seniors opt out of access to plowed and paved roads, fire and police services, and educated professional services?
It should be a law that if you’ve lived in NH over 25 years and own your home YOU PAY NOTHING in property tax. It’s absolutely awful that seniors are being pushed out of their homes. It’s theirs. They’ve earned it . Taxation is theft in this regard especially. Make these new residents of NH and businesses pay. Seniors are done.

So you choose to make the working individuals pay for the freeloaders? Talk about wealth transfer.

Property taxes are the most egalitarian tax around, in the past it was the role of seniors to hand over the reins of property and wealth to the new generation. As much as it's unfortunate many retirees need to downsize and liquidate assets, we constantly keep handicapping the rest of society for the elderly who put us in this rough situation the first place. I cannot afford a house and I will never see social security why should I continue hurting my future more and more for you?
