Reaching Across the Aisle

From "Welcome to The New Hampshire Forum!"

Go to the project

I would like to see our politicians reaching across the aisle and actually compromising. In the past 15 years, this has been lost. We are most effective when we readily showcase the ability to compromise to get things passed. And this is on both sides of the aisle. I want to see more bi-partisan bills.

National politics, they should not be compromising because of fascism, but in state politics, there needs to be more compromise. We have an overwhelming majority of free staters who are not working in our best interest and have been bullying other lawmakers and wasting everyone’s time with passing the most ridiculous laws (the Charlie Kirk act) that aren’t benefiting everyone and violate our state culture of “live free“ - telling other people how they can teach, how they can live, what they can do with their bodies, is the exact opposite of letting people live free.

Well I agree with the sentiment, I don't want to compromise with fascists. What would you propose?

The principle of caring about constituents over your own personal ideals is something both parties should agree on. Their fighting is always at our expense.

This is a great point and I'd encourage you to look into Braver Angels which does just this! They have a NH Alliance which I've joined and they make a constant effort to make sure they have as many conservatives as they do liberals (or whatever you want to call the opposing viewpoints). There was a group called the Granite Bridge Legislative Alliance which was doing this as well but it seems to have tapered off a bit. I think we could keep these conversations going both with legislators and citizens!
