Reform tax structure

From "Welcome to The New Hampshire Forum!"

Go to the project

Get rid of the no new taxes approach. We need a broad based tax to get the running of the state off the backs of the property owners. A small sales tax would make a huge difference, allowing NH to fairly support education, ease the housing crisis, and to offer other services such as road maintenance.

Sales tax is the only fair tax. People who buy more, will pay more. Unlike income or property taxes, I have some control over the sales tax I pay, if I can reduce my spendings. Unlike income or property taxes, we can have non-residents contribute revenue to our state with a sales tax. Make it low enough that we are still attracting shoppers from other states, but let's make those shoppers help finance our public services!
