School funding, decreasing prperty taxes

From "Welcome to The New Hampshire Forum!"

Go to the project

The state representatives need to focus on public education, the funding of private schools is detrimental to communities struggling with higher property taxes to fund these private schools. It is taking away money that should support public education. Yes, people should have a choice but paying for private schools should be the responsibility of the parents who wish to send their children there.

The voucher issue is detrimental to public education. The bigger issue is how to fund public education. NH needs a broad base tax dedicated to public education with exemptions for low income people/families. AX THE PROPERTY TAX! Don't forget that supporting public education with property tax has a HUGE impact on affordable housing, another critical issue in our state.
Research shows that when states introduced voucher programs, the people who were already privately paying for their students, private education are the ones who continue to attend those private institutions, and private institutions often raise their rates by the same amount of the voucher. Students with families with lower income are not able to attend these schools anymore than they were prior to a voucher program, so the only folks benefiting from a voucher program are the families who already had enough financial freedom to pay for their students to go to a private institution in the first place.
