It is time that the Governor or Legislature call for and establish an independent study group to review NH’s taxes and fees. This group will have the task of reviewing NH’s revenues and expenses and make recommendations for a viable structure and system for taxes and fees to address the state’s obligations to our residents and sustain NH’s services into the future. Not a hit or miss approach which forces our municipalities into picking up obligations that state has failed to address. NH’s future economic vitality is dependent on a viable structure.

It often feels like the focus is on opposing an income tax without offering meaningful alternatives to address our funding challenges. I’m not advocating for an income or sales tax, but something has to change to ease the burden on property owners. I’d really like to see our elected officials put forward thoughtful, practical solutions.
