Toxics in Food Packaging
From "Welcome to The New Hampshire Forum!"
Go to the project
Chemicals in food packaging are harming our health, especially children. Over 16,000 chemicals are used to create the properties of plastic, many of them endocrine disruptors. According to the Food Packaging Forum, it’s estimated that around 5,000 chemicals are used in processing and packaging materials, and around 5,000 are used as direct additives. Over 200 chemicals on the FDA-permitted list have already been identified as hazardous. We need legislation banning bisphenols, phthalates ( https://www.bcpp.org/resource/phthalates/ ), PFAS ‘forever’ chemicals ( https://www.bcpp.org/resource/pfas-forever-chemicals-pfoa-pfos/ ), vinyl chloride ( https://www.bcpp.org/resource/vinyl-chloride/ ), and styrene ( https://www.bcpp.org/resource/organic-solvents/ ).
