I believe Citizens United decision started the demise of our political system. We need to stop big donations to politicians, at all levels.
What if every taxpayer paid $20 to a public election fund. Every person who qualified to run for a race at any level ((state to federal) was given a portion of that money and could ONLY spend that money (no other contributions and no super PACs). Each news outlet donated some space or TV/radio time to each candidate for position statements.
I think it would be a good first step to becoming a true democracy again!

I think we would also benefit from studying the campaign regulations of Washington State, California and Maine- 3 states that have made an effort to control campaign spending.

There are a lot of solutions to the money in politics issue and many organizations working on this issue like Open Democracy. Some states like Maine and others are changing what corporations are legally able to do. The states are in charge of business formation and can legislate what corporations can and cannot do.
